Mine has hit 120 when thraping on motorway but 98-108 is normal when driving lanes and stuff.

MFA is a load of bollocks anyway.

Well I'm new to the 16v engine, so maybe I'm wrong !

My 8v would always been around 90 Degrees from normal driving - sure 120 degrees would pop up on a good tonking though  ]

I'll hold fire on that oil change then as it's not due for one, I just thought the high temp was a sign she's carrying sh*t oil !

synta silver, and a genuine vag filter.

100 degrees is fine, as long as it doesn't go above the mid 20s and stay there then you will be ok, i personally would never run my engine hotter than 124-5 (although the current engine has never actually gone above 102 even uinder heavy load) A fresh oil change and new filter will sort it out a treat, oh and also as its a non return valve should keep the tappets happy as they will never completely dry out again.

I've read on another forum that synta gold is better for a valver?

I've silver in mine at the mo, and it runs great, no more noisy tappets!!

Whats your thoughts on SYnta gold for a valver then???

Gold is a bit too high grade for a valver tbh, its just not viscous enough. Its generally used in the high end performance engines I.E. 1.8Ts and R32 engines, i would personally stick too silver unless you are confident that the gold is going to do a good job in your engine.

Do you have to specificly ask for a filter with a non return valve from vag or are all the vag filters for the valver fitted with the valve?
