Plug on abf inlet manifold???
« on: 05 April 2013, 00:11 »
I have a 97 16v, and I removed a mirror polished upper inlet manifold from a 93 abf engine to replace mine.

it matches up, bolts on and fits perfectly. However on my original manifold there's a small white plug going into a small socket on the front. There isn't even a socket for it on the polished manifold.

I checked another one in a friends 97 16v and he has the space on the manifold for it but again no socket!

Anyone got any ideas what this is or why the manifolds vary so much?

Cheers!

Was the polished one from another type of ABF engined car by any chance eg.  Passat or Seat Ibiza?

Is this plug and sensor between the middle two runners of the manifold?

If so, I'm guessing your car has air con?
The sensor is the fan run on temperature sensor for cars with air con and the twin fan set-up.

Reducing my Golf count by the week....
..but gaining motorcycles.

Thanks to you both for the replies!

it is definitely an original golf abf manifold, and yes its between th middle runners. however I had a new radiator fitted last month and although the car doesn't have air-con, I was told It must've come with it originally so had to have a different radiator.

That makes more sense now!

Now I just need to figure out whether I can unplug it and rewire it somewhere else. I'm no electrician! Lol!
