Have had my GTI about 6 weeks now and think its great . Only thing that didn't impress me was the original RCD 310 head unit, which lit up blue and looked out of place with the rest of the dash lighting. Thought about a Pioneer head unit as I wanted the Bluetooth functionality without having to buy further modules. In the end I went for the RNS315 and have to say i'm glad I did, as its an impressive piece of kit, plug and play fit, sat nav & full bluetooth if you also purchase a standard fit mike to complete the kit.

Which mic did you go for and where did you get ot from? I've just bought an RNS315

Bought it from 'CarSystems' in Poland, took about 5 days to get here airmail, but was 1/2 the price of anywhere else I could find, looks OEM. This is the site http://www.carsystems.pl/wiring-microphone-3b0035711b-for-vw-rns-315-bluetooth-only,id387.html

Yup, was for me. If you install the RNS315 now, BT will work straight away (able to connect to phone & BT music etc), just add mic so others can hear you talk

Yeah that might help a bit! Where did you install the mic? Ive read lots of different threads and I'm all confused now with the bT side of things

Does the mic run from the back of the head unit to the a pillar/rear view mirror or can you just plug a mic into somewhere where the overhead lights are?

I have seen this on ebay will just this do?

Thats the mic part of the kit, although you would still need to buy the extension cable if you purchase this (couldn't find extension cable for less than £30 when I looked). The one in the kit comes with all the standard wiring & connectors you need to make it plug and play (and is around £30 all in).

You mount the mic within the overhead console as per the OEM standard fit unit. See the excellent 'how to'
http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=151928.0

Ignore the 'FITTING MIC TO A-PILLAR' section as this does not apply.

Threading the cable over the head lining is a lot easier than it looks as long as you take your time (use thicker (stiff) cable to help tread over head lining). Tuck cable behind door seal to hide on section from head lining to dash (virtually invisible when done) and enter dash by fusebox lid on end of dashboard. From here carefully route to back of radio. Green plug in kit fits in to large connector at back of radio (as per oem). Plug the large connector back in to your head unit and all should be fine. Ignore the bit about Fiscon box and removing the heater control panel in the 'how to' as this doesn't apply.

Right before I start a bit of help please!

That pic is the back of my RNS315 and you can see the mic kit I bought.

My GPS antenna doesn't look like it will fit but may do when I remove the existing stereo.

Where does the mic plug in?

The small black bit goes in the overhead light bit but what about the other piece with the green connector?
