Head unit in my mk6 a few questions and advice
« on: 04 April 2013, 23:10 »
I'm not sure what model it is will add a pick later but it displays the reverse camera and has the Dynaudio speakers. Anyway, I don't think my car has Bluetooth or sat nav and have previously had all in one systems in my last 2 golfs (Pioneer Avic's)

I have a pioneer Avic's F9110 bt lying around and am tempted to put it in my GTI. Will I keep MFSW capability? I have a can bus adaptor so would have thought I keep them. Also just fitted the iPod lead into the media interface and found out all the song information is displayed on the dash as well as the stereo which is a great feature! Will this carry on working with a different head unit?

If I sell the pioneer I will probably go for a newer pioneer, kenwood dnx or possibly the rns. The issue for me with the rns is you need an extra Bluetooth module so probably pioneer or kenwood.

What are your thoughts?

Personally I like radios to look OEM.

I think the best all round VW unit is the RNS315 as fitted to the current Passat. It has Nav, DAB and built in Bluetooth as well as the usual Media In capability. It's also much easier to use than the 510's as you can scroll through menus using the center knob rather than the hit and miss slider bar on the touchscreen.

Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

I'm with dubs - I'd keep it OEM as I don't think there are many that allow the MFSW to operate if not and also, you can pick up an RNS510 + BT unit relatively cheaply and they look far better IMO as well as being less "look at me" to thieving scumbags!

The SatNav on the 510 is pretty good when you get the upgrade to 7 digit post codes and up to date maps etc.

Another for OEM, the RNS510 is a great bit of kit...

^^Agree with both The Buckeroo and Mr Dieseasel, stick with OEM. Also may save you a job having to revert back to standard head unit when selling you vehicle in the future
I have RNS510 with the v8 maps and love it

The only thing I have with the rns510 is the fact that the Bluetooth is separate so more cost so looks like rns315 but why is the rns510 a lot more expensive than the rns315?

Screen size maybe as the RNS510 is bigger plus higher res.
The 510 is DVD whereas the 315 only has CD
510 has a larger hard drive.

Have had my GTI about 6 weeks now and think its great . Only thing that didn't impress me was the original RCD 310 head unit, which lit up blue and looked out of place with the rest of the dash lighting. Thought about a Pioneer head unit as I wanted the Bluetooth functionality without having to buy further modules. In the end I went for the RNS315 and have to say i'm glad I did, as its an impressive piece of kit, plug and play fit, sat nav & full bluetooth if you also purchase a standard fit mike to complete the kit.
