Power Steering !!!!

How much would power steering cost to be installed in a 1989 mk2 ? and is it even worth doing/is there much difference not having it ?

Nice to have but it's an engine out job to get it retro fitted... So expensive if your paying someone to do it...

Drop subrame a tad at the back to get it off the uj and then it's do able with engine in.
Mine cost 30 quid in parts and I now have much smaller shoulders than before I had power steering.

If you're used to modern power steering you'll probably find it pretty heavy going without! Being a stick-armed girl I waited to find a car with it to be honest.

The downside is it's more to go wrong with the car in the future, if you were using second hand parts expect them to fail and need replacing.

Nowadays as I'm not driving the car as a daily given the choice I'd probably opt for no power steering as I no longer need to do lots of parking/spinning round supermarket car parks that kind of thing where you value the PS.

Biggest issues is finding decent condition hydraulic pipes that aren't broken, plus the last time I checked availability one of the pipes was obsolete the other was nearly £200. You can stick a new steering rack in its more difficult with engine in but do-able.

come up against this issue on quite a few cars now  so bought a hose swager.  i ether just run twin wire hosse all the way so no metal pipe at all,  or make an exact  copy of the original if have time.

some people fret about phantom safety issues but as far as hydralic system go PAS is low pressure and the hoses / ferrels used in original item are usally of a lower specifaction.   and there made same way in factory anyway
