coolant temperture sensor and Thermostat
« on: 01 April 2013, 12:20 »
something tell me they haven't been changed for a goooood while lol

engine 'seems' to run better...is this my imagination...the temp gauge now hits 90 and stays there...unlike before when I went on th bypass/motorways and it dropped down to cold again...but i've not heard the fans kick in at all, left it idling for a good while yesterday, and it stayed at 90c, with no fans...so i assume the 'stat is doing a good job...

overworking??

either way, i'm happy this is sorted, just need to clear the fault code on the temp sensor now..

sorry to hijack your thread but i was having coolant problems too. whilst the car was in the garage i got them to check it out, They said the temp sensor was faulty and they couldnt find anything wrong with thermostat.

So i replaced the sensor but still the same problem  car only gets to 90 at idle sitting still and drops off whilst driving. although the way it does it now is slightly differnent. The sensor was a brand new vw part. any sugestions? :undecided:

What exactly did they do to test the thermostat?

Symptoms sound exactly like thermostat.

No worries about the hijack...that's what forums are about..I had the same problem mate, I changed the thermostat, £9 from euro car parts, most say go genuine vw, but the one one i used is working fine...if it goes, I'll go genuine.

Easy job to do, although the bottom thermostat housing bolt is a b!tch to get out, but patience and it'll come out no prob..just take your time

Good luck
