Xenons upgrade vs MOT
« on: 31 March 2013, 21:30 »
With a view to buying a GTD, finding one with Xenons is very hard. Whilst it is relatively easy to replace with replica's, where would we stand with the MOT requirement of having to have headlamp washers? I understood that it was an instant fail?

Has anyone upgraded from Candles to Xenons and had an MOT?

If the tester doesn't notice, you probably will get away with it. I simply fit Osram Nightbreakers, made a big difference, cheaper and no MOT worries.

How often do the washers go off anyway? Isn't it something like every 5th time you wash the windscreen? Would an mot tester do that if they look oem? I doubt it.

Passed my MOT with xenons and no washers

If they are not fitted how you can test them?

I spoke to the guy who did my MOT and all he checks for is that the beam pattern and alignment is within spec

That's exactly what happened with my previous Passat that had W8 bi-xenons retro fitted. Come to think about it, the same as when it had an aftermarket HID kit in the standard projector headlights too.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

Don't mean to hijack the thread, Which ones do you have Mr GTD? Genuine or aftermarket?
How do you find them?

I'm desperate to upgrade mine, but a little confused by which module upgrades i also need to make them work.

It's not difficult to get a bent MOT these days
