At a dealer yesterday I was offered the following on a GTI.

Cost of car:      £31,283.00 (lots of options)
Discount:          £  2,100.00 (approx 6%)

OTR                  £29,183.00

Was also offered a fair price on my trade in so was very pleased. Just went straight in an mentioned this forum and broker prices. Going to another nearby dealer on Monday to see what they can do.

On a side note test drove a Focus RS, Merc A-Class 250 AMG and the GTI (again) yesterday. GTI, for me, was far superior in all areas. Love it.

Is that vanilla spec or plenty of options? Might be time to go the broker route. How does WBAC.com valuation (accurate description - mention any alloy scrapes, stone chips, dings/scrapes etc) compare with what the dealerships were offering you in p/x? If it's £2k more in p/x then you have your £3k broker deal - same price to change.

Spec as follows

GTD 3dr Manual
Pure/Onyx White
Santiago Alloys
Park Assist
Rear View Camera
Colour Multi-Function Display
Discover Nav Pro
DynaAudio
Winter Pack
Service Plan
CobraTrack Plus

The 1k discount was based on no PX as they dont need to/have to offer discount on a car that is sold out everywhere well into Jan next year.

No p/x, lots of extras and still only £1k discount....why are you still conversing with these jokers - get your broker order in!  Rear view camera and standard colour MFD are off the table now as speccable extras. Still - £4.5k of optional extras - hope you're keeping this car a long time to get your moneys worth from them. Go broker and get £3.6k or more off.

I agree with MH.  Perhaps you could explain what scares you about brokers so we can put your mind at rest.  It's basically same as ordering on your own except you start off with a big discount already agreed!  What is the catch?

I have spent today calling round literally 15 dealers and all were pretty craps to be honest ... The most I was offered was 6% but they were saying the car wouldnt be here until next March onwards

Nothing as such putting me off ... My Neighbour has just purchased a Q7 Via a broker and had a headache since day 1 from the sounds of it about poor communication from the dealer, good discount but poor deal on his PX. Also not had the best of experience with certain dealers, got shafted by a VW dealer on one of my previous cars over GAP etc, slightly off-topic but the car got written off and because of how they had structured the deal, discounts, incorporated stuff into the deal I ended up loosing out hence I like the idea of speaking to a dealer and sussing them out before handing over any money as required with DTD etc.

Ok well I don't know what happened to your neighbour but a dealer behaving poorly is not, as far as I am aware, linked to if the case they are handling was acquired via a broker or not.

The broker I used didn't require any money at any point.  You simply get handed a dealers number and a specified discount, you then take over all negotiation as usual from a position of strength and can suss them out in person or on the phone.  This includes the p/x deal if needed.  If happy sign the deal and pay the deposit, if not then go elsewhere.

I don't think it's any greater risk, just take the precautions you should anyway.  Sounds like your pretty clued up on this so I'd say give it a go.  What suited me may not suit you though but that's my comments.  Hope you find a good deal!
