Not recommending it, just saying its not gunna kill you

The spring compression might not be much on the Golf, but its difficult (impossible) to judge.

I worked in the motor trade for a good few years, and I'd never advocate releasing top mounts without using compressors. It might look like the risk of harm isn't that great, but it doesn't take a lot to go wrong and you've lost an eye or worse.

Anything that is compressed needs handling with care - springs, air, whatever.

A set of compressors isn't a lot of money at all compared to even the slightest risk of losing your sight!

We are just talking about mk3 springs here and lets face it...if your undoing the top nut with your face in front of it and you lose an eye......you shouldn't be allowed anywhere near machinery.

Exactly!

Oh and a fag will not burn petrol. It's never going to be hot enough. Proven fact!

No it won't. I know for fact and wouldn't say if I wasn't 100% sure

A fag is not a spark and a fag is never hot enough to ignite.

By the way it's only the vapour that burns.

Lighting a fag with a flame next to a open tank of petrol is stupid, but then that's fire and not the cigarette
