No power and now car only just starts...Please help

Hi guys,

Got a TDi 90bhp. My car was fine this morning and then on the M40 it lost power and wouldn't go over 70mph.  The turbo seems to be whistling, but not performing.  Acceleration is painfully slow though.
 
I managed to get home and have just gone back to the car to unplug the MAF and see if that made a difference.  The car almost didn't start taking ages to fire up, chucked out a lot of smoke and stuttered widly for 5-10 seconds until finally settling down and ticking over fine.  Still no power though.

Is this a Turbo problem or coil packs prehaps?  Any thoughts?

Any help appreciated.

Well it wont be coil packs as deisels don't use spark plugs, the fuel combusts through heat and compression alone. I would be inclined to remove an intercooler hose and check for oil in there. Could be seals in the turbo that have gone.

Sounds like a turbo issue to me. Check IC for oil, if so not good news

thanks guys...if this is the case, can be it be fixed and roughly how much!? Ball park figure?  Sods law it's Easter Weekend so everywhere closed and I got made redundant last week so not exactly ideal....

Best way to describe it is that when running, and revving it sounds like an old Transit van.

Car literally won't start now and chucking alot of blue-ish/white smoke when turning over!

Guys - quick update...

It was the EGR valve which had become gummed up with soot and crap.

Got it down at the local garage and they are cleaning it up...

thankfully not Turbo related....

timing of the fuel pump may have jumped a tooth or 2 meaning the fuel is getting there, but its at the wrong time. the horrible diesel knock sound youre hearing is the conbustion happening at the wtong times for the engine posistions. set it to tdc and see whats what
