AGG 2.0 8V camshaft upgrade advice
« on: 28 March 2013, 16:10 »
Hi all,

I'm looking to upgrade the camshaft in my '97 AGG 2.0 8V. I have a fair idea of what I want, but looking on the web I have seen (mainly on US sites) that aggressive cams are not suitable for OBD2 motors as they only have single valve springs in the head rather than doubles on earlier engines.

Just wondering if this is specific to North American ABA engines or ours too?

What lift/duration cam are people running in their AGG and any issues with valve float or bind etc?

Thanks in advance!

If the Cam too aggressive it will show a fault on the management before you even need to worry about springs.
Khare did an RR print on his 8v and got 138 bhp iirc with all his other mods, good power gain but still no puff after 5.5k
neuspd 256 for OBD is about £150

Correct.

I had a Kent GS23H, which is 286 degrees and 11.52mm lift.

Other mods were cat back exhaust, airbox smoothed and derestricted and pipercorss panel filter.

Was that on an AGG/ADY or 2E?

I'm looking at a Neuspeed 268, as AwesomeGTI ate doing them for £133 delivered.

Other mods will be a cat back exhaust, chipped ECU, smoothed airbox, K&N panel filter and ported throttle body. Not really expecting anything mind blowing, just doing it for fun really!

It was an ADY.

For £133 I'd go for it, but from a 268 cam don't expect massive massive gains.

Longer duration = valve open more time

The 268 is £133 on their eBay shop. Don't think you can run anything with longer duration on the AGG without confusing the ECU and getting an engine management light.
