Rear Arch Skin type stuff...
« on: 27 March 2013, 18:57 »
What is it?

Its basically the inside of the rear wheel arch so remove the wheel and its what your looking at, there was a small tear, so being a bloke i stuck my finger in and through it. now i have a hole

I thought it would be metal but it appears to be a flexible skin with the sealant holding it together.

I know its difficult to explain without a picture, but worth a shot...

Also found ROT where the fuel tank filler neck has 2 x 10mm bolts, tempted to get rid of the ROT and seeing how secure the tank is without them, is this an option? anyone done this without causing an issues? Does anyone know what im talking about

There is no plastic liner on the rear arches, the shell has a heavy protective coating, which looks like it was sprayed on then set with an uneven/rough surface. Must be some sort of polymer. Usually well covered in the body paint too... So if your puching your finger through it would be due to the metal shell being rotten in that area I would suggest... Think its picture time!

hmm might be filler then, when i tap the rest of the arch with a screw driver it sounds like metal, this bit probably 1" square doesnt, sounds dull.

Got my body work guru mate coming to have a look at a few bits whilst i got the complete rear end stripped out Saturday. Im regretting sticking my finger through it now
