Need suspension advice!
« on: 26 March 2013, 15:28 »
I've developed a knocking but as this is a Dodge Caliber with a TDI engine I've not come across this rear suspension set up on the parts, but the last time I jacked the car the toe links bushes were moving, but its the two parts here bellow I'm not familiar with ?
The noise is mainly over bumps and humps from the rear so it can only be these two parts that could make this noise
I've ordered the two toe links already Numbered (1) but these parts aren't cheap so didn't want to spend on needlessly.
The two parts in question is Number 7 & 2. I've heard Number two makes a squeaking noise when bushes are gone so would number 2 cause the knocking called a UPPER LATERAL LINKS.
Number 7 would be the LOWER LATERAL LINKS
Any suggestion would be appreciated similar to MK5 set up from the looks of the parts?  :undecided:

not number 3, the arb links. Or as im seeing more and more these days the ARB Mounting bushes can cause knocking, even though there is no play in the Drop Links

It could be the ARB Matey, they weren't moving much, but the car is nearly two tones and its hard to localise the noise. But one thing its starting to become skittish over pot holes like going into another direction very easily. Have to hold steering quite tight so it doesn't veer off to the left on the back. Can't go around bends quickly anymore not confident as can't predict where she will end up  :lipsrsealed:

So far the toe links have cost me £60.00 pair
ARB will be £30.00 pair
Upper Lateral links are £60.00 each
Lower ones £60.00 each.
Wishbones both front already done! £300 each
Could be top mount on the rear strut knocking?  :undecided:
Rear tyres in good nick no uneven wear, had them for awhile so something is making this noise?

yeah they can, ive also had on an old mk2 golf the bottom of the rear shocker has the bush through it ( where the bolt goes through the middle )

Ive had that cause a knocking over bumps, suspension can be a pain to track a knocking noise and you end up throwing parts and money at it lol.

Also had exhausts knocking but only with weight in the car
