should i try and change cam sensor myself

Well I've been looking into changing a camshaft position sensor on my mk4 2.0 gti. From what I can gather, I need to take the cam cover off and also the cambelt and pully and then the cam gear to get to the sensor.

Has anybody done this and how difficult would it be.

I might have found someone to do it but he's got an advert on gumtree as a mechanic and claims he can do it no problem but he's doing it from the back of his house. I don't know anything but then again, I don't know anything about a mechanic from a garage either.

What do you guys think. Bearing in mind I'm on a budget so please don't advise I take it to the big brand garages .

Have you looked for a how to?

Start there if you think you can do it then do it!!

OP given your other threads I would be amazed if your sensor has gone, it's more than likely a combination if your other issues

well its been puts onto vcds and the faults were...

B1 oxygen lambda sensor which has already been replaced and also a camshaft positioning sensor (g40) which has not yet been replaced.

So thats why im looking to change the cam sensor

Otherwise if i dont change it im not sure where to turn

Broken wire on the lambda? Not uncommon

 've not had a chance to get in the shed yet, will do it tomorrow once I've finished with my exhaust

no problem wazzer, i dont think the wire is broken but then again it is from eurocarparts  :whistle:
