« on: 31 July 2005, 19:55 »
I noticed today why i have benn having trouble getting these off!

they have been spot welded either side of the bolt head! is this normal, or has some one done this afterwards, if so why?

some bumpers can be a total @rse to remove, most vag genuine ones are ok, but i wanted to remove the big bumpers on my old blue mk2 years ago and got the socket on them, they turned and loosened a bit then the nut which is actually on the bumper irons spun (as it is either pressed on spot welded to the irons) i couldnt see how they hell to get em off as there was no access points to the nuts ... same on the fron and the rear... so i tightened back up as best i could and left em......

ive heard people have similar probs with small bumpers too when trying to upgrade to big bumpers.. things rusted solid etc.....

cant think what bit your on about whats been welded on yours??

The nut your're talking about inside the bumper is square with a lip on it, and sits inside a square hole.  What you have to do is grab the bolt and pull downwards whilst twisting to get it to sit back in the hole then get your socket on it, can be a total pain in the arse!

If you take the indicators off you can gain access to those nuts!

So what do you think the chances are of me get these off? any tips? I can always get them spot welded bacxk on :)

You might be able to grind the weld away with a dremmel drill and grinding wheel. Only way i can think of doing it.

Dremmels are comical for stuff like this. You will go through about 10 disks on each weld!
