Cambelt replacement..

Yes, the vw specialist told me they were vw genuine parts, not sure on the local garage(£290)...probably not

I'd be making sure I fit a genuine kit tbh, the cambelt isn't something I'd skimp on

Don't mean to be picky, But what is a genuine cambelt kit?
VW don't make any of the parts, iirc the belts are made by Gates and the tensioner some one else.
There is nothing wrong with using a Gates kit or a Continental Contitech Kit both at a fraction of the dealer prices.

The only thing I would buy from the dealer is the waterpump.

Agree..I think it something vw 'approve' as genuine...so if gates make them for vw, they are also gonna make the with their label on too...same as own brand superstore stuff lol

The Genuine belts i have seen have the VW,Audi logo and is also labelled Gates/Dayco aswell.

The tensioners as far as I know are made by INA which is supplied in the GATES and DAYCO kits anyway.,
 My point being that if you consider a belt with both
VAG marking and DAYCO/GATES on to be genuine and worth ££££ more than a belt with just GATES/DAYCO then go
ahead and spend the extra, but I don't see the point as your gaining no extra quality................

The point I was trying to make is to get an OE spec kit, not just the cheapest parts you can find.

I'm fully aware that VW do not produce their parts, however buying from a dealer reduces the chances of buying 'fake' parts which are of a far inferior quality than genuine ones.

Also for reference I picked up a full cambelt kit for £110 from the stealers last week

It's a full kit including tensioners and it's a Gates belt
