Slight water leak
« on: 18 March 2013, 10:45 »
Hi guys

I changed over my dash at the weekend and found a tiny dribble of water just above the bonnet release handle which drips from the metal behind the dash next to the ground point for the fusebox. As it was raining solidly I got a good chance to see and it is really only a drip every half hour or so.

It seemed to come from behind where the A pillar ends and this orange hose comes out:

I remembered a thread where someone found a tiny hole in the rain tray so I poured water all around and nothing obvious. The grommet for the bonnet release seemed fine so I wonder if it's behind the wing? Is there much to taking the wing off apart from arch liner and bolts under the bonnet?

Any ideas?

Oh also got a look at the other side of this:

And turns out it's this:

Plan is wire wheel the surrounding area, put some rust killer on, loads of hammerite, silicon the bung back in then underseal

I had an issue similar, if not the same as this. Due to having a sunroof i checked the drain channels first (inside the front door shuts) for blockages finding nothing, i then had the scuttle/wiper panel apart above the bulkhead. To find the drainage holes in the inner wings blocked, and that a muppet had changed my clutch cable and left the bung dangling behind the pedal box allowing water to come in, i had found that the carpet underlay/sound deadening was also soaked though, which you havent mentioned

Then again when looking at that picture, you may find its the sunroof drainage pipes that have split, leaking inward?

Ah right thats what those pipes are! I checked the sunroof drains with a bit of wire and boiling water and they were fine but I didn't put 2 and 2 together and work out that the orange pipe connected it. The leak definitely comes from inside the A pillar so that must be it. That's going to be a right bugger to check!
