clutch probs!
« on: 31 July 2005, 08:36 »
hi guys - my poor baby needs a new clutch atm  need to get it done before she goes, as it is dead high, and can drive in 1st with no clutch!!!!!!
If i buy the clutch i can get it fitted for $90 (pounds that is.. keyboard not set up properly - and can't figure how to change it on the mac) my bros work will fit it for me - is that reasonable... and how much am i lookin for a clutch?
should i try changing just the calbe first? my cars a 1.6 mk2 driver!

can anyone tell me how to replace a clutch?

thanks

i wouldnt try it yourself its a not an easy job £90 to fit is a very good price :D i paid alot more for the clutch than i did to fit it and if you buy a genuine vw clutch which i highly recogmend then your looking at £100+ mine was £115 but i have known people to pay upwards of a £160 for one ask stuart at eurocarparts i think they stock gen clutchs.

I've just had a new clutch fitted in my valver, it cost £280, but that included a new gearbox mount.
so I'd say £90 to get it fitted is a bargain. it will cost about £80 or so from euro car parts, see stuart on the deals and discounts forum for 10% discount!!!

If its as bad as you describe dont waste time messing about with a cable. The price you got is good and the longer you drive it like that the more harm your doing to the gearbox flywheel etc.

I agree with golfgti818 don't bother with tha cable, you may get another week out of it, but what other damage are you doing!!
the price is good and I certainly wouldn't fancy doing it myself lying on my back!!

go for it

lookin about £45 Inc VAT for the clutch itself - and about £90 for my bros mates to fit it at his work! - may even be able to get one cheaper off my uncle and maybe he'd do it up at the yard for me (he's a mechanic with own garage etc - our garage has my bros car in atm havin engine change no1)

so hopefully £150 quid n i have a new clutch!

if i have to pay £90 - i'd rather pay my uncle to do it... and i doubt he'd take any money either tbh....

can't wait to get it done - just don't want it to go altogether.. not havin any probs u c apart from it being very high!!! got an adjustable cable on atm, so will change that first (as it needs doin anyway) if it helps it helps - i can go shoppin!!!
