Hi ,
Im new to the site and also new to the world of vokswagen golf's so do not have any knowledge of them whatsoever.
So heres my story... ( I'll try to cut it short )
About a week ago i had to get rid of my Mondeo as the clutch went on it and it would have cost too much money to pass the next mot anyway.
So i bought an Audi A3. The car also needed too much work doing to it and i swapped it for my Mk4 golf 2.0 gti and here i am now.
So..
Firstly i was surprised at how slow the golf 2.0 gti really is, i was expecting something a whole lot quicker. ( unless its just this car lol )
Secondly, after only giving the car a quick check over i was told by the guy that it had been left standing for a fair few months and damp had started to build up. Well, what a load of **** !
its leaking more than the titanic at the moment

but ill get this sorted eventually.
Also i found that the car was spluttering after going through puddles and steaming from around the radiator area.
So i pulled over, let it coold down and drove it home. After a full check i found that my dipstick tube had snapped and is now exposing about 6" of dipstick. So my question with this is... could water have got down inside the tubing causing it to splutter and bog down, if so, will it have damaged my engine atall?
And finally,
my clutch is quite springy / stiff and quite high, but it doesnt seem to slip atall and it stalls when i do the clutch test in fourth gear.
So is it common on these golfs to have the clutch like this or am i missing something completely?
i would really appreciate it if you read this post, could you please leave me a reply as to whats up with my car.
Thankyou very much
