Hiya,

I'm getting a bit fed up with my mk2 now, i love it but quite frankly i don't know a great deal about cars so i am now at a loss about what to do.

The main problem is that the idle jumps about like a yo-yo far too often. (some days it plays nicely and lets me get places on time) sometimes it likes to cut out as the idles drop so low, so you have to rev it like a crazy person to keep it on and eventually it usually settles. oh and im getting around 30MPG (is that right for a 1.3 carb? seems low)  the car refuses to stay on if you take the lid off of the air filter housing too, and wont start unless it is all connected

So far i have changed spark plugs and ignition cables, cleaned the dizzy cap and rotor arm, replaced carb/manifold flange, replaced oil breather pipe, changed fuel filter, air filter and cleaned carb as best as i can with carb spray. (next to be done is oil and filter change)

can anyone suggest what else could be the cause of this problem?? otherwise i may have to go get a pink ka

Agree might be worth going somewhere and getting it setup properly rather than spending money on stuff it mgiht not need
Mk4 Golf GTI anniversary and mk6 golf tdi :)
