20vt petrol question.
« on: 12 March 2013, 15:34 »
I will only run my re-mapped 1.8 20v Turbo BVR on Shell V-Power.  Question is.......If I got really low on fuel and the closest petrol station only sold normal unleaded would my car be ok?

Reason I ask is.....

My Pug 205 1.9 would like sh~t off normal unleaded as in spluttering, my pals Scooby STI will just about run off normal unleaded......So kind of makes me think how my engine would take to it.

I will not even put in Tesco 99ron or BP Super.....It has to be Shell V Power, got some kind of hang up that all other petrols are cr@p!

I'm surprised your old car and your mates car hardly run on normal 95 Ron petrol.

My mates 300bhp 375ftlb Astra got those figures on normal unleaded.

What I'm saying is its the car not the fuel and with high powered cars the difference between tesco unleaded and shell v power is 5bhp.

If a car doesn't run right using unleaded fuel then the car needs looking at!

Also there's no difference between BP unleaded and super unleaded  rip off!

Shell unleaded is better than most super's and shell V power is the best, but there is nothing wrong with all the others!

It's only worth buying if you drive flat out and want every last bhp from your engine. If you use to get good mpg then total waste of time and money.

Interesting replies.

The 205 GTI's have the old XU engine in that was made to run on 4 star leaded petrol.......The difference was night and day between unleaded and super unleaded. It is very common on the Pug scene to only run your 1.9 on super unleaded, the 1.6's should be but not as essential.

Scooby STI is an import and should be run on 100 octane. I used to work with the bloke who had this car......He had happen to me what I posted about!  Got very low on fuel so topped up using normal unleaded.....It ran terribly!  He found out off Scoobynet that this is a huge no to put anything lower than 99 ron in such car.

I will carry on using Shell V Power as I am sure it must help and I think Benvictors said they run better off this fuel?  At least now I know these engines won run like a bag of spanners with the wrong fuel in!!

Thanks mate

As you have a very high powered 20vt, would you say that you would notice any difference between normal unleaded and super unleaded?  I am sure Ben said Super should be used on these engines, I may be wrong though.

Audi Recommend super mate, and im sure VW do too but normal is fine on non maped cars

soon as you start modding id stick with the super if i was you as much as u can. Its all i use in mine however normal runs perfect no problms what so ever, maybe a drop in BHP and thats all

even my old 8v lump was supposed to be run on super according to the little sticker in the fuel flap

wouldnt get too hung up on it all mate
