FITTING FOGLIGHTS ON MK6 tsi 2012

How hard and even possible is fitting front fogs on my car. Seen some pretty good one floating about on the net. But is it a lot or rewiring is the there a connector ready behind bumper ect ect.

There is no wiring in place already. You'll also need a new headlight switch as well. However it's not as straight forward as taking a feed from the new headlight switch to trigger a new relayed loom anymore. You will need the correct harness, most probably a module to activate the corning function and coding to tell the car they are fitted.

If it's just the look you are after, you could just fit the lights and not bother to wire them up. They are next to useless anyway.

That did make me laugh +1. I think I have only used the fogs on my many GTI's a handful of times when it is just too foggy to see with headlights at night. Save your money.

Same here...only used them a couple of times....I have to laugh at some folks running about with there fogs on...looking cool or what...

I've always thought that fog lights make a car look more "sporty", i like them even though they rarely get used.

This is true and have always thort it looks a bit naff..

I also share James view with regards to fogs making the motor look more sportier..

I'm undecided about the DRL's on my Passat, so have left them turned on for now. To be pedantic, they are not the fog lights. There are two separate lamps within the housing. The outer one is the fog light and the inner one is the DRL with a 21W bulb in it. It still looks like a fog light tho'.

It is possible to retrofit fog lights without the necessary harness in place if you really want to but it is a bit laborious. You need a new light switch with the correct lighting positions (ebay) and you will find a spare connector in the harness to the current switch that you need to use by putting in a socket to take the new switch connector. The new switch will have this terminal 'live' from the existing live source into the switch when you switch to the fog light setting. You can use this to trigger a relay without taking too much power. You need to find a fused connection 10 - 15 amps that is only live with the ignition on to power the fog lights through the relay. There is a fuse diagram on the site somewhere that you can use to get an idea of possible power supplies with appropriate ratings (eg heated seats if not fitted are rated above requirements). A 'piggyback' fuse holder is the easiest way to use this fused supply from the front of the fuse box inside the car. The really fiddly bit is to get the wiring through the bulkhead and route it safely around the engine compartment. I would use existing cable routes where possible with cable ties and/or insulating tape. There are earthing points in the engine bay already in use for lighting etc and these provide a good earthing point using circular connectors preferably soldered to the cables for the new lights.

Using this method will not trigger any error messages but equally you will not tell if as bulb blows or programme the foglights as DRLs etc.

Can you still do that? I did the exact same thing on my 2004 Passat, but didn't think that the CAN BUS on newer cars would allow it.
