first thing your gonna wanna do is go into settings and make sure you can install 3rd party apps (apps from outwith google play store) just google how to do that. Then your gonna wanna google an app called "aptoide" install that and use it instead of google play store it lets you download all the paid apps for free. The ones that dont require registration will work fine but things like expensive sat navs wont work.

I really don't trust any 3rd party pirate app stores like this, it's the #1 reason phones get "infected".

Oh, one thing you may want to look at is rooting it then installing Cerberus (it's a paid for app, but worth it!) - loose your phone and you'll find it soon enough, or take pictures / videos / audio clips if you think it's been stolen, or if someone tries to unlock the phone with an incorrect pin/password.  All of those get emailed to you.

fair enough about 3rd party apps but its like any kind of computer, a bit of common sense with downloading and you can avoid any kind of infection. Read the comments, research it all that jazz and you will be fine. ive worked for carphone warehouse for 6 years now and i've NEVER seen a phone infected with a virus.

Fair warning about rooting your device - make sure you always have the ability to go back to standard as rooting voids your shiny new 24 month warranty. CWM recovery will likely be installed during the root process and can be a biatch to remove.

Rooting won't invalidate your warranty in the UK or test of the EU, we're legally protected which is not commonly known. I sent my mothers htc desire s back as it stopped booting, it was rooted abdominal had cwm installed. Vodafone and HTC had no issues with our being rooted.   I've found flashing a stock rom with odin  gets rid of cwm on the s3 (my first Samsung Android phone) and on my old HTC an ruu Flash gets shot of it too.
