Available wires...
« on: 08 March 2013, 15:18 »
Hey guys.

I'm installing an aftermarket remote central locking system. I need to get wires to the insides of my doors, but figured I'd just use the spare ones in the door (reckon they're for the central locking that isn't there)..

In the passenger door, they have these colours:

(Green, red/white, grey)

Now I've checked, and these wires go all the way to the driver's side.. they seem to go up past and behind the steering wheel??? Can't see or figure out where they end..

Now:
Can I safely cut the wires and attach them to my central locking system?
Is it truly the wires that are supposed to be used for vw's own central locking?
How many of these wires are in the driver's side?

Thanks.

I don't  know about remote C/L on MK3's mate, but I do know the locks all run off air as in a little airbox that lives in the boot so I am unsure of these wires. Have you tested them, do they have a live feed, is it a permanent live?  Trace back the wires to the start, this can be a real pain. Other option is to just put your own wires in, easier and at least you will know what is what.

Yeah tried to trace it back... ended up around behind the steering wheel.. not sure if it goes to the boot. I don't think so.

In regards to fitting my own.. Do I have to drill through the plug in the door???? Seems like the only way... I'd rather not do that..

There's a control box behind the dash but most aftermarket systems come with a fitting guide. Or you can usually download the wiring diagram. I do remember that there are wires under the plastic door trim where people usually run their sub wires for the central locking but I'm not sure on the colours
