I use a mk4 GTI 2.0 8 valve box (same ratios as mk3 16v) but iv changed Final drive to a VR6 item and fitted a Wavetrac Differential

i have no wheelspin and the handling is much better

i had sh!t loads of spin before this, it was almost pointless having so much power low down..   not any more

my advice is dig deep in those pockets

also fit decent rubber on your rims

How much would that set me back mate?

Also....With the VR final drive what would be the top speed and what would be my top speed now on my gearbox which is a MK3 GTI 16v with my engine (BVR) ?

What i did was have the gearbox fully rebuilt by hotgolf and the flywheel was lightened / balanced at the same time, so the longer top gear has not taken anything away low down in the revs (because the flywheel spins faster now its lighter)

the wavetrac diff and ARP bolts were near £1000 with the Vr final drive

not a cheap game mate

top speed on my old 16V gearbox was 150 on the dials, the new top speed is greater, iv had it showing 160!
but how reliable the read out is at this speed is another story

You can use a gearbox calculator to find out. Depends what revs your engine can pull and tyre size also.

a cda code box as fitted to mk3 gti's should do 142.2mph in fifth at 6500rpm with 195/50/15 tyres according to the pdf table that iv got

Sounds about right. I've pulled 6.5k in fifth before. Will indicate higher though. I changed my fifty to a g60 one to have similar cruise ratio to a VR until I get box built.
