New Disks and Brakes
« on: 29 July 2005, 11:34 »
Im needing to renew the disks and pads front and rear. Ive G60 on the front and standard on the rear. What do you think of these prices and do you know of any better?

Disks
Front G60 = EBC Drilled and Grooved £81
Rear = £25

Pads
Front G60 Green stuff = £37
Rear green stuff = £32

Got any better suggestions guys?

I've heard that the ebc green stuff pads aren't that great. But i personally havent had them on my car. I would always go by mintex pads. There about £40 from euro car parts and thats the c-tech type

Dont really rate EBC stuff too much myself , they aint the greatest ... brake fade still occurs , depends what you want to spend ...

A good enough option would be something like Pagid grooved discs (dont know £Â£) with Pagid FR pads (£45) up front and then standard items such as ATE discs (£15 each)  and pads (£15) to the rear .

If you wish to save more money, then ATE discs up front (£22 each) along with Pagd FR pads is a good option, also maybe worth upgrading brake lines to braided items (£45 - 50) and your fluid, you will see a great benefit then aswell.

Yeah those green stuff pads are hopeless i had em they were good for 1000 miles or so then seemed no better than before replacement. On removal they were really glazed looking and just looked like thy were burnt. I just find the VAG the best compromise good braking good price and no squeeling

I hear what y saying but the reason i went for green stuff pads is for the minimal brake dust. As long as they stop me im not too bothered as im not a rally driver and they aint getting used on track.

Stop being lazy , i would go for the better pads and clean my wheels once extra a week, put some vaseline on the wheels or something to make easier to clean the brake dust off.

No one says they are rally drivers here either, but i would like to stop properly when i need to and have dirty wheels other than taking some extra distance to stop or not stopping properly and having clean wheels. If you know what i mean ..

Pagid FR pads, a great compromise of good stopping power at increased temps , lasts long enough ... a little dusty sometimes. And only £45 or so...

it's good to read these things.   i've always fancied trying green stuff, but after reading this i'll steer well clear.

any other opinions on the best stopping pad /for the money??
