RNS510 install
« on: 01 March 2013, 17:46 »
Hi,
I have a MK6 Golf GTD and it came with an RCD310 radio. I decided to upgrade and buy a RNS510 satnav unit. On installing the satnav unit all the functions work correctly, bluetooth, steering wheel controls, sat nav, radio, phone etc. however when the engine is switched off and the cooling fan in the unit finishes cooling, the unit will not switch back on. To get it to work again I have to pull the unit from the dash, disconnect the power plug and remove the unit fuse. Connecting all these back up again and it works until I turn off the engine and the cooling fan stops....etc.

It appears that whilst it is drawing power from the car it works fine, but when all power stops to the unit then it doesn't want to know.

Is there a vehicle setting which is needed to be activated to allow the unit to get power and switch on - thinking along the lines of connecting a VAG COM and activating some detail. Does anyone know and can they help?

The unit is 1T0 035 680H loaded with SW: 4020 HW:61 V9 Maps installed. Manafactured Sept 2012

Hi and welcome to the forum

Mine worked straight out of the box with VCDS only being needed to set up the fader controls.

Where did you buy it from?

Have you checked that all of the cables on the rear look OK with no loose connections?

Thanks for your reply, I'm going to check the wirings at the back, although I think they shouldn't be loose cos the car is only 9 mths old. However when I took the old RCD310 out, the power plug did just fall off.

It was bought off Amazon from a seller in Lithuania, he had a few, advertises them as brand new. I did have to send it back when it first arrived because it wouldn't start at all, he sent it back claiming it was a faulty fuse and it did work the first time it was connected this time.

If the wiring is tight and it doesn't work, I think I'll send it back and probably ask for my money back.
