1.3 carb flange replacement
« on: 26 February 2013, 13:47 »
hi all
i've got a 1.3 mk2 and after inspecting everything in sight ive found the carb flange (rubber flange/gasket at the bottom of the carb) has split so i'm hoping it is whats causing my crazy idles, can anyone tell me if its difficult to change myself? is there an online guide or anything at all?
i've searched on here and had a look on google but haven't come up with much
i'd really rather not have to have a garage do it for me as i may as well just give them my bank card and tell them the pin and the part itself is cheap
so any help is much appreciated

It's fairly obvious when you get the replacement mate, remove various bits off carb to allow access to 2/3 bolts holding carb to flange. Pull out of way to allow access to bolts holding flange onto manifold. Remove, replace, put back together. As long as you've got a basic toolset then you're not really gonna struggle.

No, you would only lose coolant if you removed the inlet manifold, but all you are doing is removing the carb flange off the top of the manifold.

ok so i'm not taking the whole carb off just moving it to one side to allow access to the flange? sounds easy enough. thanks.

Yeah, it's easier to just remove what you have to to get it far enough out the way, otherwise you're removing fuel lines etc.
