What to do????
« on: 26 February 2013, 11:15 »
Hi all, Ok so my Cab is pretty sick at the moment, just facing up to the fact that I'm going to have to change the clutch when last night there was what I think was a wine from the water pump, checked things out when I got home, opened the oil cap and mayo everywhere . . . . . sh!t#!!!

So a number of questions;

- Guess it's head gasket but can water get into the oil anywhere else?? Stupid question but have to ask!!!

Assuming it's the head and I need to replace the clutch other relevant facts are, the engines done over 200k but is tight, pulls etc however after 200k it's got to be tired (things like the water pump ets there going to be wear. My thoughts are therefore;

1) Stick with existing engine, engine out, head, clutch, check out other components, clean and spray bay, new mounts etc.
2) Bite the bullet and get a replacement engine.
- Std 8v  - Will a 16v fit??
 - will a 2litre fit??
- Should I go old skool and stick with 8v and go carbs??

 HELPPPPP!!!!!!Jason

The mk3 gti engine has a heat exchanger for the oil.... it is where the oil filter flange is... not 100% sure but think mk2 is similar in that matter.

check if you got water pipes going to the flange.... if yes these are also known to leak with age => mayo
worth checking this first....

Drop a ABF 2.0 16v in, easy enough to sort and will make a lot of difference.
