Suggestions needed!
« on: 28 July 2005, 15:15 »
As you may have seen from previous posts I have made I am having a few problems with my newly purchased Golf 1.8T. I suspect the wastegate and MAF may be faulty and think the car really needs a full diagnostics test running on it. The problem is that I did not buy the car at a VW garage and the garage I did purchase the car at I don't think have the same facilities as VW for diagnosing faults nor do I trust them to do it properly.

If after taking my car back again on Sunday to the garage I think the problems are still there but they say that nothing was wrong, do you have any suggestions on what I can do. I can't say you "must fix this car" as I dont know 100% that there is anything wrong with it I just think that there is (I don't know alot about cars they are not my area of expertise and I havent driven another 1.8T to compare). I thought about having VW check the car but a VW diagnostics check will set me back around £90 to find that there might be nothing wrong with it. Can I get these checks done elsewhere?

I'm a little stuck so any help would be appreciated, I was wanting to get the Revo free trial then possible a full revo re-map but can't until I know the engine is healthy.

Hobnob MAF faults don't always show up on the diagnostics machine, they had my car all day trying to replicate the fault. Have you tried driving it with the MAF disconnected yet ?

Pay for the checks to be done at VAG then present the bill to the garage that sold you the car, along with a list of things that need fixing.

If he doesn't have the facilities to locate the fault then he will never find anything wrong, and will continue to tell you the same. Get someone who knows what they;re doing tell you what's wrong, then give him the bill and tell him he has 14 days to pay it. Simple as.

Well the car is in the garage getting my private plate fitted and work done (3 months for the private plate :( hate the DVLA) so if there are any problems after this I'll be getting VW to have a look and presenting the bill to the garage.

Might put the car into VW when I go to test drive a new mk5 GTI :) (can't afford it but want a go)

Thanks for the help guys, I'll let you know what happens when I get the car back this week and give them the crappy rover 25 loan car back too

Forgot to add I'm in the Newcastle area
