The fronts will fit but won't tilt.

This wknd I fitted front and rear seats from a 5dr into my 3dr. They all fit fine and to make the front seats recline you can just remove a securing plate (one screw) from the left-hand side of the seat and then with your hand pull the hook on the other side of the seat (easily done when sat in drivers seat but a bit of an arse if getting in the passenger side). So if you have any friends they can still get in.

3dr seats have 2 hooks and when i get chance i'm going to see if one can be transfered from my old seats as i'm not overly keen on the securing plate thingy being undone and the seat only being locked in with one hook. I have only removed the passenger side plate so the drivers side doesnt recline.

FYI...

Fitting 5 door seats and having a rear bench fitted to your 3 door would be a MOT failure if the tester finds it when testing the seat belts...

way round it is to take out the bench when MOT time comes...

I was under the impression you could take the seats apart and fit the cable reclining mechanism from 3 door into 5 door, fairly easily. Have i been mislead? I was thinking of getting some new seats very soon, and was going to get 5 doors, but i wont if they cant tilt!

Is it particularly difficult? I stripped my seats recently to make new covers (fairly easy) but basically the donor car was shunted or something, the whole seat is bent, hence wanting new ones...

its just 2 cables. 1 short & 1 long, plus the lever mechanism, all the guides etc are already on the seat frame. hardest part is getting the seat covers on & off, rest is straight forward
