I'm almost certain that the dsg gearbox makes fuel consumption worse, even on the latest golfs, i've no idea why but some of it may be down to weight.
Currently pootling around in our family wagen, a Tiguan SEL 😂

Got to see the car tonight tonight, just to recap here is the info on the car:

2004 (54) 2.0 GT TDI (140, 5 Doors), 120,000 miles, 1 lady owner, Full Service History.

Key points
>  The service history is extensive and all done at the same local garage who will confirm the car was well looked after, every bill for ever service is with the car (cambelt done at 86k).
>  The car is great condition inside and out apart from a slight dint on passenger door.

The car was revved hard and produced no back smoke however there was a slight whistle from the turbo, nothing that stood out as such but I'm paranoid so really listened for it.

Summing up, all this for £3500

i'd agree. 40bhp extra and a hellava difference on the consumption particularly on the town trips.

If you want a 170 make sure the injector recall has been done

Its the first question you need to be asking followed by 'have you ever had problems with the DPF?'

Other than that they are pretty bullet proof   mine has done over 60k, 30k of which has been remapped   All still running standard equipment

Ive had the injectors replaced and last year I removed the DPF but that was more for performance rather than I was having problems

The 140 is more economical though

To be honest Im missing my TT already, and I think a 170 or 140 (newer low miles) would be a car I would enjoy owning rather then just a means of getting from A to B.

I have always liked golfs, the facelift mk5 is probably my favourite, however I did notice cheap GTI front bumper kits on the bay.

So many options, still its a nice position to be I guess :)

I have friends in south wales to so you might get to re map the bad boy!! :)

If you miss your TT then a 170 would help fill the void

Map takes them to approx 200bhp if you have what I had on my car prior to DPF removal

99% get my standard map which is good for 195bhp

Good luck with the search :afro:  what i would recommend is test drive a few examples to get a feel of what the car can do and ensure you pick a mechanically sound one
