the front screw that holds them in is the worst. I think I ended up using a philips head from a interchangeable screwdriver and some pliers to unscrew it. the alpines I have in atm just slot in and 2 clips expand to hold them down. not that they'll be shaking the dash much with bass.

best to put some 5/6in in the doors and tweeters on the dash.

I agree with with Dizzie but if like me u aint got the cash to put doorspeakers, just get high quality replacements like i did.  JBL and Infinity make the best 3.5" mk2 dash replacements.  I've got 75w "infinity 3002ci" ones which are the best you can get for that dash.  They are current range and cost me ?45, they look so slick with their silver cone. I've also had 60w JBL GTO302's which were good but old now.

The speakers can be hard to get but with a short-arm screwdriver its much easier.

I might aswell sell my infinity ones because im selling the car, and i'm swapping the originals back in.  Unmarked condition, in the box with manual and warranty, only a couple of months old...

You can just buy a component system where the woofer goes in the door and the tweeter in the dash, theres a company southside car audio always do speakers for golfs and the JBL kit isnt too bad money wise.

I've got a set of infinity components

5" for the doors

1" tweeter for the top/dash

Infinity kappa 50.2 cs I think they're called
