need help making a decision
« on: 19 February 2013, 13:48 »
Need opinions......i have been offered a dragon green 8v gti for £200...ive looked at it and its solid but has no mot or tax and has been stood for a while....i know it needs a breather pipe as its split and car is running like sh!t and either a ball joibt or a track rod end and 4 tyres but other than that its all good.

My issue is im mega poor so literally have the 200 ti buy it then would beed to sit on it till pay day.

I currently have a 16v anniversary with loads done to it but i just dont use it, twice a week if im lucky

Do i:

A buy it mot it and sell it
B buy it and break it
C buy it mot it and keep it but swap all my extras from my 16v anniversary over and sell the anniversary as a standard car.

Sounds like a shed.  You will probably find more defects after you buy it.

It won't pass an MOT as it is now anyways without spending £££

Who wants to buy bits off a Mk3 8v?   Not a big money maker as a breaker.

Stick with the anni and forget about the gti, your anni is worth way more. Keep the money or spend it on yours

If I thought I could make a profit then I woul buy it.
Part worn tyres and the rest of it including tax prob cost me between £200 and £300

How much is the gti worth once running? How many miles has it done?

If you could sell it for £800 and do the work cheep then thats what I would do.

I'm looking at non running rx8's to rebuild and sell on

If its solid with good bodywork I would buy it and do it up to sell.

unless they are perfect in every way mk3 8vs arnt worth much, so leave it alone its not worth the hassle. and as for rx8`s there 1oos of non runners with low milage kicking about ,just look on autotrader. my pal has 1, they look nice but are aload of rubbish and they go 4 peanuts even if they are runners. no body wants them because they cost a fortune in petrol and being a wankle engine they need a specialist to fix them, so stay away from em m8. there cheap for a reason ~ there rubbish

I am looking at buying some cheaper mk3's to break... I recon £200 is the max for an 8v (without m.o.t) and £350 for a 16v

concept's are worth no more than a std 8v (although a black car may be worth a little more)
anni's are worth £450 if it hasn't being stripped of any parts (wheels etc)

If it's local to me, I could be interested!

Buy it, break it and spend any money you make on your anni. Alot more desirable.

you are joking right?

do you know how the engine works? So simple and can be stripped down, take engine in the house (they're that light and small) replace apex seals, that's a rebuild. Then put it back in.

people think they are normal petrol engines and f**k them by letting it get low on oil and burning the seals out.

they are so cheep to rebuild if you do it yourself. Its people like you that don't now how it works and listen to the bullsh!t from so called specialist that can charge a fortune.

they are bad on short runs and can flood or build up carbon.

great engines if you know how to look after them.
