what air box to use with mk2 abf?
« on: 15 February 2013, 10:31 »
Hey guys just wondering what air box to use on my abf converted mk2 golf?
Or is it best to go for a cone filter? If I use a cone filter will I need to make a joining peice to mount the air flow sensor or is there some out there I can buy?
Cheers

I've read that a GTD airbox is the one of choice.

ABF doesn't have an air flow sensor.  The sensor downstream of the Mk3 airbox is IAT (intake air temp).

Options:
Golf Mk2 GTD
SEAT (ABF) Ibiza, Cordoba, Toledo
Corrado VR6 (with modification)
Cone filters (will require some boxing/ shielding off to be as resistant to engine bay heat as an airbox)

extra info:

The SEAT air box has somewhere to plug the IAT sensor into, & accepts the ABF intact duct no problem.

The Mk2 GTD does not have a location for an IAT sensor,  & accepts the ABF intact duct no problem.

The Corrado air box does not have a location for an IAT sensor,  & requires modification to join with the ABF intact duct.

To fit the IAT in a GTD box, drill/cut a hole that is a tight fit for the IAT sensor, then use some sealant.

you need a seat ibiza gti top airbox bit, then a bottom seat tolado as the gti one doesnt sit, then just an abf inlet pipe.

Thats what I got, real;ly hard to find, I emailed a seat breaker and he had the top bit then some member had the bottom bit, cost about £50 in all.

I pulled one out of a vw caddy cos it was a fiver and it fits.
Well it fits in the gap nicely but the studs on the bottom don't line up which I'm sure can be secured another way. It has iat senser aswell.
