New Golf 1.8t fume smell
« on: 13 February 2013, 22:10 »
Hi Guys

I've just bought my first golf, a mk4 gti, and love it.

Only problem is there is a very strong fume smell whenever I am stationary in my car with the vents on.

The car has not had a de-cat, and I have taken it to a mechanic allready who has fixed PCV valve and replaced two perished pipes. However this has not stopped the smell.

I am tempted to get a whole new PCV system, but if anyone has any idea on what else it could be, I would appreciate it!

Smells like burnt fuel, it's definately used fuel, so haven't got a fuel leak anywhere.

It's allright for the first few minutes but then when the car warms up it gets alot stronger

Not noticed anything, doesn't sound like it.
Had a check over by a mechanic, he said it's all sound under the bonnet

Check the injectors are seated correctly and the fuel lines to the fuel rail are on enough/tight

Pretty sure it's a burnt fuel smell, and i've read alot about the pcv system being faulty.
It's just i've had the valve cleaned and sorted out. But the pipes might be a problem, anyone know how much a full pcv pipework system would set me back?
