Which suspension????
« on: 26 July 2005, 19:25 »
looking at changing my suspension setup back to almost standard and I'm after some advice. these are the problems with my coilover setup.

I have a 16v golf mk2 with spax coilovers on the front and Avo coilovers on the rear.

The fronts may as well be a solid rod they are either awful and stiff or soft and bouncy no where in between.

They are slowly killing my car by been too damn stiff and banging everything.

Keep on bouncing out on corners not fun at 90 on the edge ;) I can tell you!

so what do you run?

I am looking for as close to factory as possible, a comfy sporty ride if there is such a thing!
lowered enough to not have a 4 foot gap but still speed bump friendly.
enough cushioning to not throw me off the road on what is the smallest dip in the road.

Any advice appreciated guys

I have been looking at the gsf kit they have and it looks about right but would like a second opinion or 10!!!
post away!

is it a Boge gas kit from gsf?

i have boge gas front shox from gsf and they ride good (no probs round bends at 90)

i would recomend them for a 'close to standard ride'

however, i'm using then with standard hight springs. does their lowered kit use these same shox?
i'm wondering cuz with lowered springs really you need a shorter travel damper.

if the damper travel is shorter i'd buy the kit.  but if it aint, i'd go for something like Gmax which give a good ride for the price.

i'm sure other people will say koni spax whatever, but sometimes our bugets dont stretch that far..

hope this helps.. J.

I had the boge turbo gas shocks and lowering kit on my last golf, lowered either 35 or 40 mil I think, but for what it was and what it cost it really was impressive. No trouble at all when it comes to having a bit of fun round corners, kept nice and flat with very little body roll, yet at the same time I never had a problem with speed bumps at all, and only had a slight catch on one of my arches when I put 16's on, and that was only in multi story car parks!! Would definately recommend them!

If you have the budget i'd say go for a spax psx kit

Had them on one of my mk 3's and they turned it from the worst hadling car i've ever owned into one of the best
Not to harsh either dunno if they are the same for the mk 2 tho can't be too much different

Coilovers in general are very harsh mind? What about the tried and trusted koni/eibach pairing (probaby more expensive tho)

You need Eibach Springs with Koni adjustables or if you can't afford the Koni, soem Boge.

EIbach's on my car are superb. Exactly the ride you describe, lower and firmer than standard without going silly, very good handling, acceptable comfort.
