Hi,
Im a proud new owner of a 1989 8v gti. It is in all honesty a turd but i like it and it was cheap so i expected it to have a few issues. It has many.
Firstly its cosmetically challenged, bonnet has major laquer peel and bad paint and the wings need replacing as at some point its had a front end smack so they are dented in the front corners and the lights and grill need attention and the splitter is missing in action. (this doesnt bother me, the mechanicals are more important imo.)
It has horrible seats of unknown origin (im currently scouring ebay for some original ones, or maybe some mk3's to bodge in)
It has no service history. ( Ive done a full service inc cambelt)
The door handles are knackered and i made the mistake of buying some cheap ones from volksbits that lasted 5 seconds and didnt work properly anyway. Ive now ordered some second hand original ones.
And now to the main annoyance my car is a swimming pool, this is where i need help. Ive read the matey matey leak advice and have made new door membranes as i had none on the car but this hasn't stopped the river in my driver and rear footwells, ive unblocked the scuttle and sunroof drains and had a half hearted look at the grommits which seem ok.
Anyway to my question, the sunroof drain holes are ok as water runs out the sill when i tip it down them but i noticed it coming in the car around the bonnet release catch so i removed the door seal and ended up having my yearly shower early! Does this mean knackered drain tubes or door seals or something else?
