Is my turbo dying?! - with video
« on: 11 February 2013, 15:00 »
I posted not to long ago for advice on a squeaky noise that only came on when the turbo kicked in, I thought I had solved it as the pancake pipe bracket was caught under the drive shaft making a squeaking noise.....

However, I've since taken it for a drive on the motorway and the noise I could hear inside the cabin is still there! It seems to definitely be turbo related and comes on at around 7 psi, and stays on through the rev range until i come off the accelerator. I don't have a boost leak so am worried that It may be a more serious turbo issue  :undecided:

Here's a video (not my video) but it is the exact same noise that starts at around 11 seconds

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Ah right, I didn't think of the vac lines, just assumed it would be boost  I'll check the brake booster lines tomorrow as it sounds like it is coming from directly behind drivers side dash that why i originally thought charge pipe connection.

Wouldn't my brakes feel heavier if it was a brake booster though? could a faulty n75 cause this?

I had a noise like what you have in my last 1.8t it was my boost gauge swaped it and noise went

Ah right, was it the gauge itself? I'll take it off, stick a bolt in the end of the line and see if it goes then... so many things to check in this cold weather!

Sounds like a small boost leak to me, whistling indicating a small hole....
Is it just under boost, is it as you let off boost or at the end  before the DV blows off
ARZ K03s, Oettinger Side Skirts, R32 front, Carbon stage 2, Forge 007p (yellow spring), Forge Actuator (yellow spring), Pipercross panel filter with DSG parts, N249 and N112 deleted, SAI deleted, Carbon canister deleted, Rear wiper deleted, Long Life turbo back custom exhaust with 200 cell sports cat, VR6/G60 clutch kit, Creation Motorsport TIP, Catch can, 'Wellycooler', K04 charge pipe, S3 ported inlet manifold - looks pretty standard on the outside though :)

It is just under boost, comes on at 7 psi and stops when i let off boost..... do you think a hole in the intercooler itself would make a noise like that?
