Edition 35 value
« on: 08 February 2013, 22:43 »
Selling the gti 35  dealer will give me 22.5 k for the car so I've lost 8.5k in less then a year, I think that is a big drop and was thinking maybe 26500??

Give Lee a shout (evo) he's not too far away from you is he? He'll give you an honest price assessment.

Not sure what they are on the forecoourts at but a dealer will want at least a couple of thousand in their margin ?

That's not a bad price imo after looking at a trade book.
Go on pistonheads classifieds and do some research....

Isn't the crude rule of thumb that most cars lose 50% of their value in the first 3 years, with year 1 being the largest percentile drop?

Figures from the dealer dont surprise me, private sale is the best way to yield the highest value but may take longer to sell.

Sell it private and you will get £2k more than what the stealer is offering.

Is that a price for the dealer to just buy the car from you for cash?

If that's the case, don't expect to be offered anymore than he would pay at auction for one. Why would he pay anymore for a car than he absolutely needs to? If you've gone to him, you are automatically on the back foot when it comes to negotiation.

You would be better off advertising it on Auto Trader at about £25,000, with a view to accepting a bit less. It will probably still be bought by a trader, but one with lower overheads that will not be so greedy when it comes to making a profit on it.

If you paid £31k for the car, it will loose the VAT the minute your name goes on the log book. That makes it £25,800. Take off another £3000 for depreciation and your at £22,800. So to be fair, he has offered you a realistic amount.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

I think thats a fair offer and i'd rip is hand off with the problems you have had. I think you will struggle to get 25k private as you can get one off a dealer for that and thats before haggling.
