Bye bye GTi - how to dispose of a Cat 3 write off
« on: 08 February 2013, 14:41 »
So my life as a Mk4 owner came to a shuddering halt this week after someone pulled out into me and smashed my door and wing

I've just been told it is a Cat 3 write off but they'll buy the car for £150. This seems a bit low (even for a V reg) but other than pulling it apart myself and selling parts individually, what are my options? I found a website that buys crashed cars and they were offering about the same. Is this the going rate? Any top tips for shifting my lovely but dented motor?

Thanks

Cat 3? Do you mean Cat C? If it's C then you can get some new parts, stick it through a VIC and carry on driving it.

I'm sure she said 3 but 3/C, meh all the same.
Apparently if I get a geometry check I can drive it (assuming it passes).
New parts will involve a door, a wing, an angle grinder and some welding so not a DIY job.

Are you sure they said £150? Surely £1500 would more likely be the value of a Mk4 GTI?

Is that £150 to have it weighed in for scrap metal?  You not insured or something, why the insurance not paying up book value?

Are you sure that they didn't give you the option to buy it back from them for £150 after they have paid out for it?

Have they offered you a figure less your excess?
