Front bumper accident...
« on: 07 February 2013, 10:19 »
Last night coming back from Leicester I entered the motorway from the slip road and just as I came onto it in the dark there was a tyre right in my line of drive but too late to even move so I had to hit it otherwise I would have gone into a lorry :(

There is damage as expected but for some unknown reason as I pulled into a safe place to stop I cried - why when I knew it wasnt gonna be good! - Anyway (typical girl I guess...no comments lads!!!) Anyway The tyre smashed my centre grill and also destroyed my fog light passenger grill but decided to not touch the actual fog light as was still connected when I stopped and looked in ace condition. Only minor scratches which can be blanked out. Also the bumper has come away from the light to the wheel arch but will cox it back into place as nothing appears to have snapped. And finally it has only chipped away some paint on the passenger sideskirt as I went over the tyre.

Now as things have to be ordered do I go to VW who want 25 for fog grill and 50 for centre grill as OEM parts or else where? My mate suggested I go for the R bumper but that is different to the GTD bumper.

Do I also try and claim on the motorway agency? Have photos of the damage?

Does anyone know the part numbers for the fog light grill (not the actual light) and grille under the number plate

Sorry pal, I had suffered a double blow-out on a slip road leaving the M1 one winter evening. It turned out that my tyres hit something metallic which burst bith front and rear nearside tyres and also damaged one of the alloys, on a previous vehicle.
I complained to the Highways Agency but they refused to accept any liability citing the fact that they cannot monitor every road at all times (fair enough). Also tried to complain to the local council, but got rebuffed again.
You could try and contact the relevant authorities as you never know, but I got no-where and decided against insurance claim so footed the bills myself

Sorry to hear about your incident, but at least you're ok and all that. These things seem to happen. I heard and felt a massive bang under my Passat on Tuesday night, going round a steep downhill right hand bend. I hadn't hit anything, but my nearside front coil spring just snapped. I had to drive on carefully for about 20 miles to get home, but it was an absolute pig. I'm sure the car had taken a pounding due to the state of the roads which contributed to it, but I doubt I'd get anywhere with a claim.

As for your car, and upgrading to .:R bits, the .:R bumper is quite different. It also has DRLs built into it and no fog light apertures. If all you have damaged is the grilles, them they will be easy to replace. You could probably get away with a smart repair to the damaged paintwork as it is so low down on the car.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

Others have said when you complain it falls on deaf ears and may as well pay for the damage and pray it doesnt happen again.

What are the 2 systems? Vag com and Vag tech? Just want to do a few alterations ie windows down but when locked they go up automatically but dont think vagcom can do that etc

Others may correct me on this, but I think both pretty much do the same job i.e. diagnostics and connecting to ECU to include standard changes. I have VAGCOM but not used VAGTECH. I'm also sure that some German Car Specialist Garages may use other diagnostics, but alll should do the same job

VCDS is often referred to as VAG-COM. It's main distributor is Ross-Tech.

Maybe the names were muddling you up. There really should be no need for confusion tho'. Here, let me explain. They are different words, containing different letters that are pronounced differently. Care to dance?

Sorry to hear about your accident.  I would go for VW parts but that is just me.  I clipped my mirror and ordered some rubbish online to fix it.  I had to send it back and ended up in VW parts anyway.

Sorry to hear about the mishap. Had both front tyres blow on the M69 when hit a aluminium ladder in the third lane but fortunately apart from two new tyres no damage. Police not really interested. Suggest you try TPS for VW parts. Should get a discount on stealers prices.
Mk6 GTI Carbon Grey, 2010 Bluetooth and voice fitted, a few VCDS mods still a comfortable family car. Red Scirocco 2011 twin charger stage 1 - enjoyable drive now gone.  White 2016 Polo GTI (roller skate on steroids) replaced with an Indium Grey 2019 7.5 GTI PP.
