Thermostat or temperature sensor?
« on: 07 February 2013, 08:49 »
Been reading through previous post but i`m still confused, usual symptoms when driving stays or goes lower than 70 degrees when idle goes to 90.
I`v started from cold and checked the bottom hose it gets warm at 70 degrees so thermostat s does open is this correct?
Or is the temperature sensor not reading properly ?

with those symptoms it is almost certainly thermostat mate....

15£ for thermostat, 10 for coolant and about 2hours if you've never changed one on a mk3 before.

It quite a big job that`s why I want to be certain
So your saying that the thermostat is opening beforehand and it should not open before 90 degrees and that its a dodge thermostat?

yes, your thermostat is opening too early, or more likely just not fully closing anymore.

don't know what you mean with big job, just a bit messy due to coolant coming out....
change itself is fairly simple and can be managed easily with basic tools.

if you tell me which engine you got i can give your instructions...
