MK3 GTi Idling Problem
« on: 06 February 2013, 21:02 »
Hi guys, i have no idea what is going on with my girlfriends car, its a 2.0 8v gti.

When its on idle it wont idle properly, its really rough and every time i stop at a traffic light or anywhere, as soon as i let it idle it cuts out.

I have no idea what it could be, i thought it was the idle control valve but i cannot find one on the car for love nor money.

Cheers

Dan

Well if its the ADY engine it doesn't have an ISV.There are a few things it could be with the cutting out problem.I had the same with my 8V and it first turned out to be the Crank Sensor.Got that changed but still had an issue with cutting out whilst sat in traffic so got a VAGCOM done on the engine and re-aligned the throttle body.Found out that if you clean the throttle body out that it needs to be re-aligned.Does the oil light flash when the car cuts out ?

Sounds like the Crank Sensor then m8.They are prone to wear and difficult to change.

what year was it built or at leat what model year is it - that would be letter 10 in your vin.

if it's a 2l 8v it could also be a 2E, which was built up to mid 94 for example (i.e. when model year changed to 95)...

im not sure if it makes a difference, but the previous owner put a huge aftermarket air filter on it. and there is a plug with nothing connected to it right near the air filter, i believe this should be plugged into the maf sensor but there isnt one of them either.

Also the exhaust is blowing badly would that make a difference?
