high idle then drops after 10 mins
« on: 06 February 2013, 12:34 »
1.3 seems to idle at 2000 then drops to 1500 and finally down to 1000 i believe its eating petol to as my 1.4 mk3 seemed better on petrol.

im very much new to all this and read all sorts but im confused where these parts are to even start looking. first of if i go for a weber what one am i after.

iv read alot about the waxstat but dont no where it is or how to tell if it needs replacing.

do 1.3 have idle contontrol valves and where should i look for air leaks.

sorry to sound like a monkey with a spanner in his mouth lol

The Weber you would need for the 1.3 is a DMTR.

If the Pierburg you have is the original 2e3 (curvy full-load enrichment pipe going into top of secondary barrel?) then it has no waxstat, only the 2e2s (with straight full load enrichment pipe) fitted to 1.6/1.8 engines have this feckin thing.

Instead, the 2e3 has a stepped cam arrangement which governs the primary throttle opening/idle speed during warm-up.  The mechanism is intricate, including a tiddly spring or two  It may just be dirty and gummed up, it may be a little broken.  Give the mechanism a good hosing with carb cleaner to clean it all up and see if things improve.  You'll find it in between the choke water housing with the two coolant hoses, and the main body of the carb.

ahhh it didn't cure my problem. the car seems to use a lot of petrol and struggles to start ..  took 30mins this eve.. then when it did start it just died straight away. I have to rev high to get out of junctions otherwise it stalls.   where are the vacuum pipes located? cheers.
