Paid £210 with VW insurance - in my name (I'm female), 10 years no claims, with other half on as second driver.  Was told VW were either extortionate or really cheap!  My former insurer Direct Line wanted £350

There are so many variables that insurance companies take into account for quotes it's difficult to compare one with another [For the same car, different person]. Things such as driving record [points], postcode, is it garaged, annual mileage, your age, your occupation, modifications to car etc.
I would just say though, by shopping around a little and increasing my voluntary XS to £300 from £100 I managed to insure my R for £365 [With a well known and very reputable company] This is less than I paid the previous year for the GTI! [I am an old git though - so that helps]

http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/insurance/car-insurance-job-picker/
Shows how you can save a fair bit by changing the "name" of your job.
Always worth having a look.

I don't have a GTI but the comparison site quoted me £242 with 6 points but think living in a decent postcode, being over 40 and having a points free wife on the quote helps a lot.

I changed the name of my job, kept it factual and it came down by about £50.

Seems some people are getting some really cheap quotes!

I am 30, 8 years NCD and clean liecense, parked on driveway, with the wife as second driver who has a fault claim and 3 points came to £617 on my MK6 Golf 2.0 GT TDI for Fully Comprehensive + Business Insurance

Not garaged and with a fault claim 3 pointer on and including business use it sounds very reasonable to me.

Some insurance companies will charge less if it is parked in the street and not the drive bizarrely enough, as then the thieves don't know which house to break into to get the keys!!

I pay £320 for my standard GTD with a clean license and full protected NCD and one named driver with Esure, but I'm old.

Market Value, have you tried Parkers Guide? they say mine is valued at around £16,000.
2010 Golf GTD (170) CBBB, 5 Door, Shadow Blue (P6/D5Q), Flat Tyre Indicator, Basic Protection Pack + VCDS.
