Soft/spongy clutch MK3 Golf 1.4
« on: 04 February 2013, 18:27 »
Hi all,
I've been experiencing an odd issue recently with my 1.4 1995 MK3. The clutch is very soft and travels to the floor with little resistance. The odd thing about the issue is that it comes and goes. Sometimes its fine and just a little soft, but other times the clutch wont even disengage unless I pump the clutch a few times or press it down and then slide my foot off to flick the pedal up and this gives back some firmness. I'm not sure if its a cable or hydraulic system but the way the issue comes and goes and improves following pumping suggests air in the hydraulic system?? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Regards
Guy

It should be a cable on yours - if I recall all MK3 golfs apart from the 16v GTI and the VR6 were cable operated.

It sounds like the automatic adjuster is on its way out - it's basically not always "catching", either not at all or perhaps not where it should be.
