Mk3 ABF PAS fluid leak

I've lost loads of PAS fluid, and it appears to be leaking from what i assume is the PAS pump (Bottom pulley at the front of the engine). Theres a small lake of fluid in a recess of a bracket under whatever pump it is.







You can see the puddle under the bolt here, along with the wet belts and alternator



From anyones experience, would this more likely be a problem with the pump, a pipe or something else? Looking around, it appears a new pipe would be up to £120 from VW and due to the ends, nowhere should really make one up for me?

That could explain the belts being very wet, and possibly why my alternator is wet?

Think you'd be better of cleaning it all up then running, should be obvioua where the leak is once clean

I assume you mean the bolt on the top of the pump? If so, is it just a case of a socket and tighten, or is there a VW way of doing it? Seems most things on a VW are unlike any other car i've had!

Yeah just get a socket and ratchet on it and see if its tight but chances are the pump has had it. Best to get it all cleaned up then inspect it for the leak as there is only so many places it can come from down there, either the banjo bolt or the seals have failed behind the pulley. The other rubber pipe attached looks dry so that will be fine. A vw is one of the easiest cars you can work on and a replacement second hand pump can be had for as little as £10 of ebay or from breakers.

Most likely seals behind pulley. I had this problem as well a few years back.

Buy a working pump which as already mentioned can cost very little and fit it, it's only a few bolts.
