Electronic throttle
« on: 02 February 2013, 22:24 »
So I was concerned about the lag in pick up of the throttle in my mk6 gti when I first got it. Somebody mentioned a modification that was available that fixed the lag in pick up. Could anyone tell me where I might get such a modification and how much it would cost? Thanks

Not sure if they're still available but I got a Sprint Booster in mine. It has been in both my mk6s and although it was about £100 which is a lot for what it is I consider it money very well spent.
There is a version of it rebranded and sold in the UK now but can't remember what it is called. I know a few others have this essential mod.
Been driving around in a hire 1.6 TDI Caddy all week which feels like a Golf to drive and the throttle pedal was annoying me all week.

DTUK sell a thing called a pedal box

It amplifies he pedal input signal making the pedal more responsive. Has per set adjustment settings or you can fine tune it if you want or put it in economy mode which makes the throttle less sensitive too

They're about £150-£180 from juicy detailing/DTUK

I want one and tried to gauge interest for a group buy on here but no one seemed interested

£150 is a hell of a lot of money for what they are.
But I wouldn't be without mine so I guess if you need one you need one!!

Hmmm £100 sounds gd, but £150-180 does sound expensive.  Thing is my cars is on Lease hire so not sure if its really worth it as ill be giving the car back to the Stealer in September 2016.  The acceleration lag does annoy me quite a lot though.  God only knows what was wrong with the good old fashioned cable operated accelerator  :undecided:

Must admit that, despite owning many turbo'd cars in the past, I haven't experienced much lag in my GiT.
I didn't realise that lag was an issue, or at least a big-ish issue in the mk6 GiT. Am I alone here....?

it not turbo lag just a delay from pressing the pedal to the engine actually doing anything and when you lift off it takes maybe half a second before the rpms start to drop

i think its a built in thing to help rubbish drivers not stall but it makes you sound like a learner when in traffic

Oh I see, another built-in thing such as even when you turn the traction control off it never actually is completely off !!
Another 'safety' feature as we may be regarded as incompetent

Not noticed it being a problem for me, now the Fiesta ST we had back in 2005 when they first came out was horrendous, made it a pig of a car to pull away in

Three and a bit years of living with something is worth a couple of hundred quid to put right!

I know lots of people who re-map company cars and just swallow the cost as it's something you've gotta do! A bit like drinking beer: All you get is a headache and the following day ruined but we all do it from time to time!! There's no financial return on it! Unlike one of these gadgets that will at least have a bit of value at the end of the term.
Buy one over the internet and you've got 14 days to decide whether it was a worthwhile investment or a waste of money.
