The buffers on the train being missing is problematic for me.  Needs to be there, aside from anything it'll lighten the bottom of the shot.

Agreed. The black border works at the top of the shot but at the bottom it just looks like its covering the buffers and the picture looks incomplete without them.
Also for me, the fact the border comes up so far emphasises the fact that the train is leaning.

Did the original have the buffers in shot?

If you can get the buffers back it would be great.
